Psychology Board of Australia Approved Supervisor
Supervision is a deeply personal and rewarding experience, and working with the right supervisor can make all the difference.
Board Approved Supervisor services Australia-wide
Whether you're a provisionally registered psychologist, working towards endorsement in clinical psychology, or a registered psychologist seeking supervision of supervision or in a specialist area, I provide a safe, collaborative, and evidence-informed space to develop professionally.
Why supervision matters
While supervision is a mandatory requirement for provisionally registered psychologist, it is more than just that. It is at the heart of our professional development, ethical practice, and individual growth as a psychologist. It can offer a space to:
develop specific competencies
reflect on your psychology practice
navigate ethical and professional challenges
develop your professional identity
gain feedback and encouragement
As someone who has supervised hundreds of provisional and registered psychologists, and trained similar numbers of supervisors, I understand the unique pressures and rewards of our profession and how supervision functions as a crucial mechanism to ensure safe and effective psychological practice.
Who I work with
I offer online supervision for individuals and groups Australia-wide, including:
Provisionally registered psychologists
Providing support to develop psychological practice competencies, specific guidance through the 6th year internship for those on the 5+1 pathway, additional work outside placement (AWOP), preparation of the National Psychology Examination, and preparation for the transition to general registration. Don't forget that although your training institution or workplace may provide you with supervision you are able to select an independent supervision for additional support as a one-off or ongoing basis if that is helpful to you.
Psychologists undertaking a registrar program in clinical psychology
For those who have completed a 5th & 6th year Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited course in clinical psychology and are undertaking the registrar program to obtain endorsement in clinical psychology, I can provide primary or secondary supervision. You may find it helpful to work with someone independent to augment supervision provided by an employer, or someone with specific expertise in relevant areas.
Registered psychologists
There are many situations where registered psychologists benefit from one-off or ongoing supervision to support their psychological practice. This includes to address expansion of their individual scope of practice into a new or less familiar area, managing complex cases, dealing with ethical or professional challenges, including receiving a notification to AHPRA, or where supervision has been mandated. With the introduction of the updated Professional competencies for psychology and the new Code of conduct supervision may also be beneficial to assist in the process of reflecting on existing knowledge, skill and competency in some of the areas that are changing.
My approach to supervision
My supervision style is collaborative, developmentally informed, and evidence-based and reflects my primary theoretical orientation in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). I draw on my deep understanding of the nature of contemporary psychological practice, training pathways, and the challenges that can be experienced by practitioners at different stages of their careers. Core principles of my practice include:
Safety and trust: Supervision requires vulnerability and I create a respectful, non-judgmental space to explore challenges and implementation of feedback
Structure and clarity: Focused on clear goals aligned with the career stage of the supervisee, I ensure that we use our time effectively to achieve what is important for you and your practice.
Reflective practice: I encourage the development of reflective practice which is at the cornerstone of psychological practice both in implementing evidence-based interventions and managing ethical challenges.
Inclusivity: I have actively worked to make the profession a more inclusive space both in terms of people with disabilities and differences in sexuality and gender. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community especially I welcome the opportunity to work with psychologists who want to know that they will be entering a safe supervision space.
