Dr Kathryn Nicholson Perry (she/her)
I'm a registered psychologist, with endorsement in clinical psychology and Board approved supervisor status, with a passion for advancing inclusive psychological practice and education.
About me
I am a clinical psychologist, researcher, academic, and supervisor with over three decades of experience across the UK and Australia. My career began with undergraduate studies in psychology at the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology (UWIST), followed by clinical training at the Institute of Psychiatry in London. Early roles at University College London, St Thomas’s Hospital, and the Institute of Psychiatry allowed me to work closely with individuals managing chronic pain, cancer, and cardiac risk factors—experiences that shaped my enduring commitment to evidence-based care.
After relocating to Sydney, I spent nearly a decade at the ADAPT Pain Management Program at the University of Sydney’s Pain Management Research Institute, where I completed my PhD exploring the cognitive behavioural model for chronic spinal cord injury-related pain. A postdoctoral fellowship with Professor Louise Sharpe further deepened my research into attentional biases in chronic pain.
Since 2009, I have held academic leadership roles at Western Sydney University, ACAP, and ISN Psychology, including Head of Psychology, Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching), and Dean. Until recently I was the Chair of the Australian Psychological Society’s Division of Psychological Research, Education and Training, Across these roles, I’ve been dedicated to mentoring emerging psychologists, shaping curriculum, and fostering research-informed practice.
In addition to my academic and clinical work, I actively contribute to the psychology profession through voluntary leadership roles. I currently serve as Treasurer of the Australian Association of Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy and am a member of the Psychology Council of NSW.
I am passionate about promoting psychology for the good of our community—mentoring emerging psychologists through education and supervision, contributing to the evolution of psychology training, and supporting the application of psychological science to help address the big challenges of our time.
